Why You Should Never Rely on Headhunters

Headhunters work for Incentive:

Headhunters act as a bridge between candidates and employers. But the matter of fact is headhunters are neither loyal with job seekers nor with the employers. To be precise they actually work for their incentives. They are not liable for the lies and scams towards candidates as they get paid by the companies. They feel no sense of responsibility towards forwarding the candidates in deserving order or on the basis of their talent. You never know if they are keeping the process fair and transparent at their end. If you are getting the opportunity through a headhunter, it’s not because they are your well wisher but because someone has paid them to search for the talent. You are just being used as a medium to get paid.

Sympathetic but not impersonal:

Headhunters cannot afford to be impersonal with you. Although by their gesture and posture they will give the impression of sympathizing you. They may not get back to you, may not respond you, may not keep in touch with you and do follow-ups. They don’t have any personal association with you. They may scam you with false hopes and assures you by sympathies. Headhunters give impact to job seekers as if they are working on your behalf but this should not be confused.

Keeping information Hidden

Searching a job through headhunters keeps information hidden from you. Candidates may not know who the recruiter is on the other site. In this case, the job seeker is not capable of researching about the company portfolio. Until the last moment, you are unaware of the hiring company. You know nothing about the interviewer’s panel and prepare yourself accordingly.

Evaluating the Feedback

If you are relying on headhunters for your job search, always keeps an eye on details being hidden from you. Like you never know your resume even reaches to the employers? You cannot evaluate what type of jobs and companies are giving positive feedback to your resume. If you know the details you can accordingly optimize the resume and enhance your skills. But in headhunters case you leave your headache to headhunters, they cannot afford to pay personal attention to candidates. You should always keep your eyes open and do follow-ups. Ask the headhunter about the resume application proceedings, feedbacks etc.

Prioritizing Advertised Opportunities

As it’s already mentioned above headhunting is much more than just the name says “hunting the talent”. It’s more like hunting the talent with tactics to generate more revenue to you. Headhunters are sometimes paid by the companies or by agencies to promote the specific jobs, highlighting it to more candidates. Irrespective of how suitable is it for the candidate they tend to convince you that this is the best possible opportunity one can get. Hence occupying your mind to stay focused on the advertised job. In this way, you may lose your attention to other more brightening opportunities. You may miss some golden opportunity. Headhunter is doing what he is best at. That is selling the opportunities for his own benefit, regardless any ethical responsibility towards candidate’s career.

Beware of Scams

It is extremely difficult to develop the trust level on headhunters. They tend to be profit oriented. Once they realize you are in desperate need of a job, they may use it against you.  They may befool the needy candidate. When you let them handle your career decisions, they are in power of deciding which candidates to forward for which job. They can decide on your behalf, without even getting you in confidence.

Don’t Limit to Headhunters

If you are searching for the jobs through headhunters, still you don’t have to limit yourself to them. You are not bound to stick to them. You are still free to utilize the other resources for job search. Be active in your networks, Job ads and online Jobs platforms. Stay attentive to job opportunities other than what headhunters are bringing on. Don’t rely completely on headhunters and wait for them to work on your behalf.
